A Flash Decision From Ethereum That Concerns the Entire Crypto World! These Applications Are Being Terminated!
The Ethereum Foundation announced in a blog published today that the Ropsten testnet of the blockchain has started to shut down and is expected to shut down completely between December 15-31 Dec. The news comes as developers have gradually stopped participating in the testnet over the past few months, and participation rates have been falling.
What Did the Ethereum Test Do?
Ethereum runs test networks so that developers can run this software they have developed before launching their software on Ethereum’s mainnet (mainnet). Ethereu essentially act as replicas of the main network and test the networks customer teams, developers, infrastructure providers and their changes in more high-risk environment downloads provide errors to a minimum by allowing you to test before you start..
While Ethereum had all this, it made a statement and announced that it would shut down the Rinkeby testnet in mid-2023. In the process, it will give developers plenty of time to migrate the applications they are running to the Goerli or Sepolia test networks.
All of these testnets played important roles in development and testing before the big Merge upgrade, when Ethereum switched from a proof-of-work consensus mechanism to a proof-of-stake consensus mechanism.
Goerli and Sepolia had both conducted their own Merge tests (i.e. they had switched from proof of work to proof of stake), so they stood out as the networks most similar to the environment in which the Ethereum blockchain operates today. Ethereum Is Not the First
In October, blockchain researcher Etherscan had shut down infrastructure support for Rinkeby and Ropsten.
Ethereum developers are constantly creating new test networks, depending on which upgrades they are trying to test. In November, Ethereum developers agreed to implement the Shandong testnet, which addresses some Ethereum Improvement Recommendations (EIPs) for Shanghai, the protocol’s next major upgrade.
